RAW MATERIALS

Our raw materials are the reason for the quality of our fabrics. 85 % of our processed fabrics are knitted in our plant – here in Albstadt. Our main object of view is the quality and the sustainability of the yarns. That means that we mostly use European products; the cotton yarns are organically certified.

It is important for us to design our products sustainably. This is why we use mainly renewable materials. 40 % of our products sold, are made of cotton, 30 % of modal and viscose and 30 % of synthetics.

ORGANIC COTTON

When cultivating the organic cotton, the environment is protected, the ground is treated with care and the use of water is strictly limited. Chemicals are used sparingly and must comply with the basic requirements of biodegradability. This ensures that also in the future farming is possible. Safe and hygienic working conditions, a minimum wage, no discrimination and no child labor provide fair social standards for the population.

The GOTS standard guarantees a sustainable production of textiles.

MODAL

TENCEL** modal fibres come from the renewable material wood – from near to nature woods and sustainable working plantations. The wood and the cellulose pulp, which is being used by the Lenzing group, is extracted from certified and controlled sources. Cellulose is the worldwide most common organic and at the same time renewable plant material. The fully integrated pulp and fibre production at the plant in Lenzing/Austria ensures an environmentally friendly production of fibers. Lenzing is strongly anxious to protect the resources for future generations.

VISCOSE

Viscose is also based on cellulose. ENKA produces FSC(reg) certified pulp from a Swedish bio refinery. The wood needed for this fabric is 100 % from local, legal and sustainable forest in Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Scotland. ENKA itself is certified according to FSC (reg) and committed to a sustainable purchasing policy for the protection of the forest area. Furthermore, ENKA(reg) was selected as „Responsible Fiber“ by the independent organization Fairtrade International. ENKA strives for a highly efficient use of resources in a difficult and competitive global market.
